With huge thanks to Amanda for this location, it turned out perfectly and I was able to photograph the comet.
I came up to Keweenaw to get photos of the comet after attending the Aurora Summit in Wisconsin. The location in Wisconsin didn’t work and who can resist visiting Keweenaw Peninsula? I took an extra couple days and drove the beautiful drive along the shoreline up to Houghton where I have stayed before. On a whim I drove up to Copper Harbor on Monday and on the way back I found Visit Keweenaw.
I had already planned on taking photos from McLain State Park but the forecast was not looking good: a lot of clouds. Amanda was so helpful. When I told her what I wanted to do, she told me about Agate Beach!! I checked my app and the clouds were forecast to disappear right around the time the comet was supposed to be visible, soon after sunset. (We all know that there is no guarantee with forecasts, yet I was hopeful)
The drive to the location was beautiful, as is all of the UP, and then I wound my way down the roads that took me to the beach and then I was there. WOW!! What a magical out of the way location!
I got out and scoped around for a bit. I figured I’d stay near the boat launch so I can easily leave after I finished taking photos.
