Disappointing auroras at a new secret location

Disappointing auroras at a new secret location

When you have locations scoped out and need permission, sometimes you go even though the numbers are disappointing.

April 15th was definitely a strange night. The numbers were all over the place. The Bz’s were north and the hemispheric power was low, but surprise surprise, we got a tiny bit of auroras. I’m guessing the location was dark enough that Christy and I were able to see them here at the 45th parallel because of really clear skies.

The chase is the adventure and this was good practice for future endeavors at this location. We were able to get there and back again without running into any bears, coyotes, or any other creature. We followed all the rules and proved that we were good to our words.

It was cold but not as cold as last months’ adventure. We stayed a few hours but it was a weeknight and we didn’t stay as late as we could have. Apparently there was a substorm after we left but even that wasn’t great. I’m pleased with the results and hope to have another opportunity to shoot here again. Higher auroras would be better reflections.

Till next time, Lady Aurora!
